ABOUT US

SORCE Collective (Supportive Organic Reflexive Community/Creative Empowerment) is a research-creation collective at T’karonto Metropolitan University and York University with a focus on open-ended, creative, empowering methods for pursuing justice and structural change, all while trying to have a good time. Embracing the richness of difference in who we are as full people, SORCE members are interested in developing innovative, inclusive, form of what Yuval-David calls transverse politics through liberatory methods by seeking to bring about grassroots power and agency. Mixing deep philosophical work with grounded solutions, we move theory into praxis through creative, iterative, horizontal, community activity.

Through our activities, we are working build bridges between equity-seeking groups by researching forms of praxis that enable our mutual ease and collaboration. Nurturing broad grassroots allyship practices, we hope to enable broad associations between marginalized people and allies working towards tangible, creative, connecting solutions to our common problems.

OUR MISSION

Our collective hosts events, parties, workshops, and skill shares, providing resources and peer mentorship to a) support community engagement and creative praxis in the university setting; b) create a space to discuss emergent methodologies and ethical questions in research-creation and related fields; c) showcase the talent, knowledge, wisdom, and creative outputs of members at ongoing and completed stages; and d) create opportunities for liberation and collaboration that enable links between university departments and the community at large.

We invite masters and doctoral students, artists, and other allies to join our collective, pursuing the aims of mutual-aid and social justice. Sign-up below to be added to the listserv and get invited to our next meeting. We don’t require members to commit to a specific level of participation. Watch, engage, lead — it’s up to you.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

SORCE is always seeking new collaborators. As a horizontal collective, our members operate semi-autonomously while also generating links of mutual care and collaboration. Being a part of our collective means being able to access the collective genius of our members, and vice versa. We hope that this broad network of coalitions might nurture the potential for collaboration, support, and knowledge sharing.
